Suspension Gurus Chime in..Please

Hi All

It seems many of you are not real thrilled with the Eibach and Illumina 2 setup.

I would like a (mild) drop, so the 1 inch provided by the Eibach Sports seems like enough. I plan on using the car for DD and trips. I like the car to ride smooth like a GT car can, and should. I also prefer that it feels stable at higher speeds.

I will be doing a sway bar upgrade, Looking at the ST's right now. I intend to keep the TEMS in place. I will not be changing the sawblades out for another 2 or 3 years, ($$) and too much time invested in polishing.

I don;t expect my needs or plans for the Supra to change. I also don't want to have to redo this mod too soon for having done it the wrong way first ^^

Any suggestions are appreciated, as is your time. I have owned and maintained my Supra personally for 14 years, it is time for the stock suspension to get an upgrade.

don't know what your talking about really??...that setup is just fine for the daily use...it will be an improvement over stock for sure! Now don't expect the setup to be great for track use or drag raceing...but your golden for daily driveing.

I'd recomend the bilsteins but illuminas are fine.

Thanks Gaboon

What I am referring to in the first sentence is what I have gathered from some posts, some coming from mods. Unless I totally misread their comments.

Bilsteins are TEMS compatible ?? As I said I want to keep the TEMS in place.

Thanks again for the response.....

Nope, only stock/Illumina are TEMS.

I always have to ask this, but why lower a DD? Depends on the year as the 89+ are lower from the factory and don't look bad in stock form, but any lowering spring is going to be a compromise and usually they aren't all they're cracked up to be...

Thanks for the input and question Poodles. It is an 87 model year 7MGTE.

The lowering seems to be a part of the Eibach Sport package, as I know you are aware. I did not think that 1.5 to 1 inch was that dramatic of a drop.

However, if you or anyone else has a better idea on springs based on what my needs listed above are, by all means I am all ears ^^

I have Eibach sports and Tokico non-adjustables and it's a "sporty/firm" ride (though Idid just do poly bushing replacement).

However, in previous suspension upgrades (twice) I did the same (without replacing bushings) and was very happy with it. I've never had the TEMS working long enough to care, so I don't know what the adjustability buys you. I am pleased with the Eibach/Tokico combo for a daily driver in Florida and in Texas (I like Florida roads better though ;-).

That setup is perfectly fine for a DD. However if you want max comfort keep the stock springs and the 4x4 height lol.

Not too bad. It will be stiffer, but of all the springs I and my friends have had, eibachs are the least harsh of the bunch. Just make sure you put good bumpstops and dust covers on those new struts.

Eibach/Tokicos have also given me the stance I wanted with all of my Sups.

Freshly installed on 91 w/18x8.5 and 18x9.5 (35 offset) wheels. Has settled a little bit since install.
