When I bought my 88 mk3 there was a very strong fuel smell under the hood and you could here some sort of leak right after the engine was shut off (leaky vacuum hose?). Most of the hoses were old and brittle so I ordered a new set of silicone ones and decided to change the vacuum hoses too. I read that my problem my also be the cold start injector so I took it (along with the manifold) off. Is there any way to test for a leak somewhere?

Also, the inside of the manifold/throttle body looks really dirty. I'll definitely give it a good cleaning before reattaching but, is this normal?

Anything else I should be checking while I've got it taken apart?
Thanks guys.
