ok so i've got this old Pioneer and i had to get a harness for it, and i wired it up, Soldered etc.. And the headunit works fine in the car, Just there's 1 wire that i couldn't wire up since there were 13 wires from the Honda Harness and 12 on the Pioneer headunit side... the free wire is ORANGE and it's supposed to be Illumination... there's a black wire on the pioneer headunit side that's not listed on the color chart, and the Black wire from the honda harness says it's Illumination, So i guess i won't be using the Orange wire...

illumination is what makes it dim during the night and bright during the day so no you dont have to use it but i would try to figure it out if there are more wires

Your original post is a bit confusing. You say your honda has 13 wires and the head unit harness has 12...that's fine. Then you say there is another black wire? Is that 'another' wire which would mean there are actually 13 on the deck's harness?

In most cases black wires are 'ground'. Also in most cases the illumination wire coming from the deck will be orange or orange w/white stripe.

Anyway...it doesn't matter. Most likely, your deck doesn't support the dimming feature, especially if it's really old or an entry level unit.

Tape off the orange wire and enjoy the tunes!
