I hope some of you guys still are using this turbo...

I bought this turbo from a local supra member who just had it sitting in his garage for 2-3 years. Install went okay but the boost slowly rises above 15 PSI even without a boost controller. I do recall a lot of the first models going back to SP for modifications to the wastegate. Are you guys happy with the way the turbo performs after the modifications and was the turn around time reasonable? I don’t want to be without a turbo for the rest of the summer.

The guys at SP seems eager to help.

Thanks

As Matt stated, you'll need to port the wastegate.

IIRC, your wastegate port is "D" shaped, and not actually round.

If possible, round it out with a dremel or similar and the problem should be solved.

Also, a common problem with the early SP61GT's was the wastegate rod would be coming out of the actuator at an angle. This would also cause the wastegate to malfunction. This happened to mine and I was constinantly running 20psi. I had to bent the actuator rod so it would push straight instead of at an angle. This fixed my problem and many others too.
