I've had some really good luck and some really shitty luck.
About 2 weeks ago, my company had their quarterly team meeting. So I went in the Supra, it was a nice sunny day. End of summer, it was cool, the weather was clear, the birds were out. At the end of the meeting, when I was leaving, I had to make a decision. Do I go home or do I go watch a movie (Jet Li's Fearless, kicked ass BTW). I decide to go to the meeting.
In my rear view mirror, one of my buddies, who drives an older Porsche 944, goes the other way, the way home. Later in the day when I come back to work, I find out that there was a 7-8 car pile up on the road that leads to home. I find out that my buddy who drives the 944 was rearended, the first in that long line to be rearended. If I had gone home instead of going to the movies, the Supra would be in a junkyard right now. Thankfully, I went to the movies and still have the Supra.
This is my first run of luck. Its also a case in which I know I escaped certain peril with the Supra because of my choices.
My second run of good luck, and of course bad luck wrapped into one. Woke up today, my day off, and had some errands to run. Was deciding between the Supra and my daily driver the Cressida. I was going to have to move the Supra into the carport under the shade sometime today so I was gonna go out in the Supra, but I decided to take the Cressida instead (the Supra looked so peaceful sleeping under its cover).
In a parking lot at a Kragen's, the Cressida gets hit. Some guy in a company truck decides to backup with me behind him making a turn into a parking spot and takes out the front passenger door. The window is smashed. Theres a giant hole in the lower middle portion of the door, and it no longer opens. After 5 seconds of cursing and demanding the driver to pull over, I was thankful that it wasn't the Supra.
Inspecting the truck that did the damage. Nothing. Nada. Zero. Zip. Zilch. The lower step board was made of steel, it gouged a good foot long gash into the door, ripping up a good sized hole, tore the window hardware up and had only a couple of scratches. To show for it.
Went to the dealership to order up a new dipstick for the Supra, I asked the parts guy to look up what it would cost to replace the whole door. It was about 1200 bux parts only. There would be paint, labor and other expenses accrued if there was more damage than expected. So the Cressida is fubar, and now I have to use the Supra as a DD.
This is the second time that a conscious/subconscious decision on my behalf has spared the Supra from a junkyard fate. The only bad news is I have to put more miles on it (95600 original miles).
Anybody else relate? Did you make a travelling decision with the Supra and found out later that it spared the fate of the Supra from a junkyard?
