Excuse me for the dumb question... but which shifter socket do I choose on the marlin crawler website?? L43 Shifter or " All other common toyota shifters?

And with the shifter seat... the " red" 1985-1988 W56
or the " White" most 1981+ top shift toyota transmission?
I think its the white but am not sure.
Is there anyway I could check myself?

Its a 1987 Toyota Supra N/A Manual Transmission

Thanks alot.
I need to order the parts tonight so I can do it this week while im off school.

take off the shift knob (just turn it left, its threaded)

take out the center console (its like 5 screws and 3 connectors (the plastic panel under the column has a screw in it possibly (it does in my 91).

Once the center console is out, you have 4 bolts holding the rubber cover on around the shifter (they bolt into the tunnel). Once those are gone, you can peel the rubber up and see the shifter tower. There will be a rubber cover on it that will slip off, revealing the 4 bolts that hold the shifter to the trans. Take those out, pull the shifter assembly up and out. Take the bushing off the ball on the shifter (which is a PITA sometimes). Carefully use a small flathead screwdriver to get the seat bushing out of the trans, dont let any fall in. The new bushings will come with instructions to install the new seat, and the bushing on the ball is self explanatory.

metal to metal contact is great for it. not to mention the rediculous amount of play youd have.

dont be cheap buy the bushings their 15 bucks for the complete set.

I highly reccomend the shifter bushing, before i installed it i would have about 2-3 inches of shifter play WHILE IN GEAR, after the marlincrawler bushing its about 1mm of play. Also, do the sogi short shifter mod if you dont plan on getting a short shifter. IT all really makes a huge difference and shifting is alot easier

I went with the Green Toyota truck bushing and the Socket which was available for the Supra(just ask at the parts counter).

Eliminated 90% of the play, theres only a little bit of forward and backward play, the side to side play is gone. Im guessing its just wear on the metal part where the socket sits, unfortunately I cant find that part. Use a shitload of grease, I used some Timken bearing grease.

Switching to a better gear oil helps ALOT for smooth shifting, I also found that it felt a little stiff at first with the brand new bushings but after about 1000km's its nice and smooth.

700$ car, with a used tranny with over 150,000 miles...I don't care. ;p

that 15 dollars can go towards my 1j. The 7m is just getting me point A to point B.

OH, and the slack... If you had never driven the car, you would think it was in neutral, no matter what gear you were in. lol

But i'll be spending the money on the 1J, after the 7m dies.
