Re: 1jz Clip/Complete Swap Questions

Can someone answer two questions for me. I am buying a 1jz swap now, but I haven't been able to find a complete auto swap.

Could I get a manual swap without tranny and bolt it to my auto tranny with the 1jz bellhousing? Is the bolt pattern on the drive plate that connects to the crankshaft and the torque converter the same for both auto and manual engines?

And the other question, How different are the wiring harnesses? I know I'd need an auto ecu, but would the manual wiring harness be able to plug into the auto ecu and run everything without extensive rewiring?

Or better yet, does anyone know where I can get a Supra auto swap. Jarco doesn't have any right now.

Most of the ones I see are automatic also. Mine was a five speed swap and I got if from www.driftmotion.com , I don't know if Aaron has any or not though. You'll have to check his website. When my car was an automatic, I switched it to a five speed and used the same harness. I don't know if that helps you or not, but someone on here will know. Good luck.

best way to do it.. automatic motor with low mileage and convert it to 5spd, etc.

I'm currently doing a 1jz auto swap right now, I just bought a 1jz soarer motor set and it came with a auto tranny and thats the one I'm going to run its the same size and model as the 7m auto tranny it just has different clips and sensors on it. Check it out its in my sig, also there is a write up on how to wire a 1jz soarer into a ma70 if you search for it.

you dont need a auto ecu you can use a suprastick you just need a button to shift and another to downshift :) you might get away with a 2jz a340e bellhousing.... and as for a torque converter... 7m one should work

and i didnt know 1jz supras came auto... i have only seen manual.... any 1jz autos i have seen were advertised supra but obviously soarer

and the 1j driveplate will work with the torque converter, even for the 2jz if i remember right

theres at least 3 auto jza70 motors on ebay at any given time, at times more.. indicated by auto a70 ecu.

Soarer motors are not rear sump, correct? I don't really want to do that. I sent a few pm's to vendors on here, so I'll see what they can get me as well. I was thinking about the Suprastick, but not right away. I may switch to manual down the road but it's way too much hassle for right now. Thanks for all the input.

I'm pretty sure my soarer engine was mid/front sump and I had to swap the JZA70 pan to it.

since your motor was a front sump you didn't have a soarer motor, you had a chaser motor. soarers are mid/rear sumps and you don't need to change the oil pan if dropping into a supra

here are some i have, they aren't great though it will just give you an idea of where the sump is

ohhhh thats what it was. Thanks for the clarification. It must have been a chaser.

All of my friends except for one got rid of the POS hydrofan in japan, which was enough logic for me to do the same.. 2 of them had it fail on them. anything as possible, but the best indication is the harness and ECU IMO.
