Hi Folks,
After a several month hiatus from the Supras I'm back getting the race car ready to rock and roll. I have a question on the speedometer function WRT the ECM. What I'd like to know is what the effect will be on the driveability of the 7M if it has no speedo input.
I don't believe it has much effect in a racing application because on one of our cars the speedo has never worked (the cable was broken) and we really couldn't tell any difference between it and the other car that had a functioning speedo. That said, because it didn't matter on THAT car doesn't mean it shouldn't or won't.
I would like to remove the entire instrument panel and replace it with better race mechanical gauges (they are exempt from the $500 limit in the Lemons rules per 4.2.1 which says:
Besides the items and processes listed in Section 3, the following are considered safety-related and therefore exempt:
......
Driver comfort and information (steering wheel, shifter, gauges, pedals, cool suits, vents, heaters, radio)
.....)
My plan is voltmeter, fuel gauge, oil pressure, water temp, tach, sequential shift light (if you've never driven with one when you do you won't go back), and boost gauge. This would be on an aluminum panel and would make it much easier to mount other items like switches and the master kill switch.
So, thoughts or musings on what effect a speedo delete will have would be appreciated. (I did do a search and came up blank about actually deleting the speedo, but I'm not real familiar with the site's search functions yet)
