im curious what are all the componets need electronicaly to make the trans shift. I really would like to get the car to shift so i can finish putting back together to sell. I put a motor and trans from an 89 supra into an 87 supra with 89 engine n trans comptuer. since puting it in and finding the car wouldnt shift and thinking it could be electrical i changed the engine harness the ect and ecu to the 87-88 (yellow plugs) to match dash wiring. now every thing in the car is yellow plug and it still dont shift. im leaning toward the trans got messed up when the car it came out of hit the tree, but before pulling the trans and buying and swaping one I want to make sure all electrical stuff is their and right. this has been an ongoing project for two year. i almost wish i would have never bought the wreaked on to fix this one and sold this as a project or to some one to part out. i have so much money invested in it and would like to recoupe as much as i can and wont be able to unless car runs and drives.

You may have the same problem I had, the speed sensor for shifting is in the cluster if your speedo dosen't work then it wont shift. Unplug the trans computer and manually shift and that will tell you if the trans is mechanically able to shift.

You don't need anything electronic to shift. Unplug the trans at the range selector, and see if it shifts.

If it doesn't shift, you have a trans problem. If it does shift, you have a control problem then you can worry about electronic diagnostic.

Where the harness plugs in on the side of the trans. The bottom picture is the range selector which is attached to your shift lever. You might find it easier to unplug the transmission ECU behind the passenger kick panel. Be concerned about static when you touch the computer case.

Why don't you describe your symptom more. Is it stuck in first gear, or is stuck in direct? In case you wondered about his speed sensor comment, the speed sensor replaced the governor assembly. The hydraulic circuit is still there, but the sensor forces the upshift against throttle pressure, which is not achieved with the throttle cable.

the car will go into reverse and drive but with the trans comp unpluged it still dont seam to shift up when manually shifting it. the speedo however is not working as i never finshed puting parts of the dash back together. i have it pluged in to check for codes but never actuly placed it back in n screwed it in. if i get some time to day im gonna try to work on this more.

The speedo needs to be hooked up for the auto shift to work. as for it not shifting the best way to tell is put it in 1 and try to do 40 run it up to say 5k or so then go to D you will know if it shifts then.
