Pulling codes on a Benz?

Hey this should probably be in other engine tech but I was hoping some tech guys might be able to help me.

My GF drives a 01 SLK320 and she just got a check engine light while cruising on the freeway. Anybody know if there is any way I can pull codes on these cars or do I need to hook it up to an OBD2 scanner to find out whats wrong?

Go to your nearest Auto Zone or Schucks and ask them to pull the codes. They should do it for free and tell you what code it's throwing.

Thanks man! I just realized I'll need the code scanner to check it. Not like our more user friendlly cars.
