Have anyone tried to replace the steering rack boot? I am trying to do one on the passenger side.. TSRM is asking for all kinds of SSTs to be utilized.. Any tips ?

Regards,

I did it on mine(88). Doesn't take an SST to do it, but you need to take the shimmy damper mount off. As I recall, it's a pain in the arse, but then all you do is inscrew the tie rod(s).

Thanks supraguy.. I had the rack already off.. so, I left the damper mount on, and just unscrewed the whole piece with damper braket from the rack piston.. worked just fine.. used two wrenges 7/8" and 1-1/4" wrenges to take the rack end off..

Per the TSRM, I need Dextron II ATF for power steering. This is red fluid, the current fluid is clear in color.. so, putting in "power steering fluid for all" from autozone is not advised? any issues with mixing fluids? or should I replace all the PS fuid in the car with new Dextron II ATF?

Dexron II is an old classification, kind of like API-SF for engine oil when these days the most recent spec is API-SM. For ATF fluid, you want Dexron III.

Any Dexron III ATF fluid should do the trick. I'd spring for some Mobil 1 synthetic ATF myself.
