power steering rack replacement

hi everyone
im having a pretty frustrating issue.
i got a used rack from another member on here and im installing it.
both units are non pps.
the issue im having is the steering gear does not fit all the way down into the rack .
the old one looked like the bearing cap had been removed
does anyone know if i need to modify this rack to make it work or am i missing something right under my nose
