I scrubbed mine with a wire brush to clean it off, first. Then I placed tape in the grooves where the belts run. I also taped off where the pulley slides onto the crank. Then paint it, let it dry, unmask, and enjoy its new look.

No tape and painted it all no problem. (except the middle where it mounts)

The grooves will help wear the paint away within a few days anyhoo.

DO NOT PAINT IT!!!!!
IT IS BALANCED TO A VERY HIGH TOLERANCE AND MUST BE LEFT ALONE!!!
Buy a new one if yours is rusting...

JK foo...
You can paint it up all you want. Paint it STi pink if you wanna.
The belts may squeak if you paint the grooves, but only for a few days as Duane said.

I used like 3 coats of primer and then an engine paint... it was old ford blue... it was the best blue to match the blue interior... I'm doing my hardpipes in it right now as I type... they are almost done... I'll post a pic of them in here so you can see the colors...

how interesting, i thought it was more of a metallic flake paint. I think thats what i want to go with. A deep dark blue metallic. Like zooloo's exterior paint, that and polished/chrome.
