I just bought a 1989 Toyota supra turbo. The car is a auto to 5spd swap.
It has a new after market hg plugs wires timing belt water pump. There are the bolt ons intake down pipe exhaust 550 injectors lex afm apexi neo. The problem I am having is the car over heats and the temp gauge is not working.
is the sensor to the temp gauge this? The green plug?

I am not sure why it is over heating though the previous owner replaced the coolant and supposedly put a new thermostat in it. It is missing the fan shroud and the under bell tray. I know I need to fix the gauge first to see the temp over heating. The BVSV is broke as well there is no vacuum hoses on the BVSV either. Do I need to fix the BVSV? ( the 2 LIttle nipples are broke)

Any suggestions on what to look for or what the issue maybe

fix the vacuums, make sure all of your wires are plugged in and wired correctly, and possibly get a new temp sensor (not the green one, the other 1). Also, make sure you are completly full of coolant, and that your overflow is too.

And Get a fan shroud.

Then go from their.

I do know that the under tray can cause temps to rise a bit, but I dont think it can make you overheat.

Is it the sensor that says Light green wire for aux fan sensor. That one has been replaced. It might be bad wire then on the gauge. I may just put an aftermarket gauge in it.

Thanks

the grayish connect right next to the blue is your temp sensor. My gauge wouldnt work for awhile, and when i checked it out, i discovered that I had accidentally unplugged mine.

I wish I could run out and double check it I think he replaced it I will look into the connection when I get home. I will also clean the connector as well.

Yea, check that the wire is getting current, and keep the connections clean. Maybe its just a bad temp sender

I am sure you saw this coming where is the temp sender. I did a quick search and I couldn't find a straight answer.

Thanks

I just told you lol, its the greyish plugin next to the blue one ... the actual "temp sender" is the piece that threads into the housing, with the single spade sticking out of it

Okay I think I get it I will try that out first. Hopefully this is solves the gauge issue.

Thanks again.

I got the gauge problem fixed the wire was disconnected from the connector going to sensor. I also noticed the plug above it was loose when I touched it it broke so I am going to replace that tomorrow and start it up and see if it over heats I might need to get some of the air out of the system the previous owner changed the coolant in the car right before I picked it up.

So I was right about that wire :p

Yes, you may very well have air in your coolant, so try burping it. Remember that air gets trapped in your heater core alot, its a fact of life :(

Fix that plug, and make sure your thermostat isnt stuck shut.

I got the plug fixed and the gauge wired up it took it a long time for the gauge to respond but when it did I was working great. I Drove it around my subdivision to see if it would get hot. I never got over 30mph it started to heat up so I went home let the motor cool for a few added some coolant and tried to burp the system. I drove it the same route through my subdivision with no overheating issue's Now I haven't had a chance to drive it hard so we will see what happens tomorrow when I get a chance to drive it further.
I have a fan shroud coming and soon a new BVSV.

dont drive it too hard until you are sure of a few things. I know you said it has a new HG but check your oil and coolant again and again just to be sure..

I have checked my oil and coolant everytime before I start the car.
I am over paranoid about a bhg. On a side note the car has the Bic DDP
I haven't rode in a car with one untill this one. It is loud. I know I will lose power but once I get this straighted out I am going to take that off and put on a reg dp.

Thanks.
