I had a few questions on SF but got no answer so I'm wondering if any of you guys know the approx. voltage the wire that feeds the OP gauge reads when the car is at idle, say 40psi, and what it should be at say 120psi. I'm only getting constant .15 volts and it doesnt change when oil press. would be increasing. And 0 volts with the motor off.

It's not a voltage, it's a frequency. Digital signal ie; a square wave.

If you wouldn't mind could you elaborate? This is the first I've heard of this. What happened is when I wired it up and turned the car on it went to 120psi, and when i started it, it tried to go up then dropped down to 0. Thanks

Well I have the sender into an oil filter relocation kit on a 1JZ so would a single wire run from the sender to the gauge get it to work correctly? I talked to a Toyota shop foreman and he said it (the wire) ran through a potentiometer or something like that but that would be on 7m wiring not 1j wiring. Thanks for the explanation and patience. I think this stuff is a bit over my head. What happened to a simple wire carrying simple voltage from point A to B. :nono:

I'm using a mk3 gauge and a mk3 op sender. The sender worked as a ground when testing another wire supplied with 12v so ground shouldn't be a problem. Also I'm almost positive the sender is fine. Does this mean I can just run my own wire from the sender straight to the gauge and just bypass the wiring from the swap. Seems like it would be simpler and I wouldn't have to guess about what the wire is running through. Only thing is that I believe I tried doing just that before and had no results. I'm just afraid I may have blown my second OP gauge and I'm clueless as to whats causing it and not allowing it to function. My multimeter reads frequency at 20kHz, could I use this to test the reading and what would I look for?

After reading your edited part, I think I may have blown the gauge because with the motor off, acc. on the gauge read 120psi so I may have it grounded. However I have the wire with the connector slid onto the top of the sender so I'm not sure.

Ill go try that right now but I fear I may have killed the gauge as it quit working after I fired the car up and wouldnt work after it. As for the 42 ohms, that is what i got when i used the multimeter touching the circuitboard on the pin that is for oil press and the pin that is the ign + that feeds the OP gauge, is this the correct way to check the ohms for it and would that 42ohms mean the gauge is not fried?

Thanks Jetjock. I'm gonna have to wait till tomorrow since I can't find fresh small gauge wire right now. This problem has been bugging me for about 6 months now and this is my third go at it. I appreciate the help and think you have cleared a lot up for me. If I can make this thing work I owe you a case of whatever the heck you want man. :icon_bigg
