there is an oil leak on the bottom of the metal timing cover near the pulley for the crank shaft on my 7mge is this the oil seal or could it be a gasket???

Is the oil coming out of the little groove in the bottom of the cover? Clean that area with some degreaser or brake clean, run the vehicle, and make sure the oil is coming from there, and not the oil pan gasket.
yes its coming from the little grove i cleaned it and checked the pan and its the grove that its leaking from
Either cam, crank, or oil pump seals. You have to remove the timing belt to do any one of them, so you might as well do all of them, and a timing belt while your there.
