NGK wires and NGK 6097 spark plugs wont fasten down?

I was in the process of swapping out my Autolite 3923's for some new NGK 6097 seeing how they were getting high recommendations. I cant get my current NGK wires to seat on the plug. Its almost as if they are too short. Has anybody else had this problem?

take one out and measure them compared to your old ones and you'll have your answer why this is happening

While one is out, make sure the plug fittings properly fit together
