Hey everyone, I know this isn't a supra question, but I can't get answers anywhere else.

I'm getting a free 86 MR2 but it was flooded and I need some info. I wanna just make it a long term project car and dropping in a 3sgte. I'm gonna strip it all out and clean it up. I'm wondering what to look for and how to prevent it. Mainly rust. The water went up to the dashboard...

Anyways thanks

those things are pretty notrotious for rust even when not submerged in water, doesnt sound all that fun but best of luck
Yea, my 89 is bad in some spots, just not on the outside, and its never been near deep water. There is no trunk floor under my carpet. You might wanna keep an eye on the quarters, there are bad about rusting, and take all the factory intake tubes out that wrap around the back, they trap a lot of moisture.

First I would suggest if you are going to mess with MR2's I would strongly suggest MR2OC.com. I rebuilt my MR2 with the help of the people on that site pretty much. Its is just as helpful for MR2's as this site is for Supras.

My current MR2 came to me as a flood car. I bought it for $100. Here is a thread I started on my MR2. I use a different user name on MR2OC then here.

If your MR2 is still wet strip the interior out and throw it away. You do not want and flood residue in your vehicle. It can cause illness and it will always stink. You will want to strip ALL of your hanesses out so all you have left is a bare chassis. Pressure wash every inch of it and scrub it down and then let it sit open so it can dry out. There is spongy like material in the trunk area kind of tucked in above the wheel wells. You have to reach in around the metal and get them. They will probably be wet and would cause rust from the inside. Look for a donor car to swap in good parts. I have a crap load of MK1 parts if you need anything. Dont try to use flood damages electronics and make sure all your ground points are free of mud and corrosion.

My MR2 has probably atleast parts from 10 other MR2's LOL. But with alot of cleaning and parts swapping I turned a $100 piece 'o crap into a really nice SC'ed MR2!! Have fun!!
