Well my buddy's mom bought this old suitcase about 10 years ago.

This weekend she finally opened it up.

Nothing was in there except for a very well kept WWII pic of a gentleman.

On the back it says,

"Mom Uncle Bert to Jimmie"

"PVT Bert Brandon"

I can see on his uniform he's Army. He has a patch on the side of his shoulder thats a big #4 in a circle.

Is there any way you guys know of how to track this guy's family down and return the photo?

I need all your supra sleuths' help here!

Thanks in advance.

If your near a military base you can go to the P.O. and find out more info on the soldier. When my family was stationed in Germany I was able to find my cousin that way. Im not sure if they keep records that far back, but they might be able to tell you something.

the number patch represents his unit. and we was a private which means he was probably corporal-sergeant when he got out of the army if he was just in it for the war.

ok i cant see the patch you are talkin about so i cant do much. it may be the 4th infantry division but there patch has 4 clovers on it. if he was in 4ID he was one of the first to see action at normandy and fought in the battle of the bulge. they have a long history just like the "the big red one" and 7th cavalry

The photo is black and white....

But what I can tell:

Theres a 4 in the middle.

A solid colored ring around the outside, but at 2o'clock there is another solid color. From 12 o'clock to Id say 3 o'clock.

Then on the opposite side, from 6o'clock to 9 is another block of the same color?

wow i cant find anything resembling that... and if you are talking about the jacket hanging in the background that is most likely someone elses cuase i dont see any stripes on the dress coat he is wearing and it says private on the picture which is no stripes. the database on military.com is incomplete and doesnt give enough information
