i have a 1989 Turbo Targa. i have a problem where sometimes my starter wont even make a noise and my fuel pump wont engage when i crank the ignition. i know that the fuel pump for some reason only works when yuo crank over the ignition and then its kept on by the computer . or so im told. i also can't figure out why my fuel pump is only working when it wants to. its real screwey. i checked alot of diff . things and the only thing that i have narrowed it down to is the Circuit Opening Relay. and yes i checked all the ignition components, fuel pump itself, fuel pump relay works and resistor works. so can any one help me out???

when my friend got his first mk3 his car would only crank when it wanted 2.
we found out that the problem was the stock alarm.
if u have a stock alarm i would jump under the dash and disable it asap there a pain in the ass if ur door switchs arnt working perfect.
search google and supramania for the write up for disabling the stock alarm (if u have 1)
and yes the fuel pump only turns on once the motor reachs a certain rpm (well thats my experience with them anyways) if it doesnt jump the test connector at the diagnostic plug under the hood.
i dont remeber which pins u need to jump so once again search.
if it works check ur fuses and check ur fuel pump relay if those test good u need to start checking ur wiring.
well thats all i got good luck and let me know if any of this helps

thanks man, i figured out what my problem was, it was where the ignition switch hooks up to the wiring harness under the dash, one of the wires was loose in the harness connecting to the ignition wiring harness. i fixed that and it seemed to cure everything. and as far as ive read, the fuel pump only kicks on when the ignition is cranking, and kept on by the computer, and not kicked on at a certain rpm, cuz if that was the case how would it get to a certain rmp without fuel??? lol thanks again for helping me out and responding to me.
