I am getting a loud popping noise from the right front wheel area whenever i have to break hard. It is quite a loud pop or thump. The noise doesnt occur again during acceleration or turning, just hard braking. Nothing appears broken under visual inspection. This past winter i slid into a curb and hit my right front wheel which might account for the damage. The car also seems to pull to the right if i let go of the steering wheel. anybody have any ideas?

Get a prybar in there and start looking for loose ball joints and bushings. Look real closely for bent parts. Did the pull start happening after you hit the curb?

I have it all apart right now and I am going to replace the tie rod end and the ball joint as i dont know what else it could be. It has started to pull moreso lately than before. Also, there is a whirring noise, no vibration, that comes from the same wheel when making right turns and at high speeds.

Don't forget to tighten up the subframe bolts and other ones we tend to forget about, in that area...

Thanks for the tips, ill double check the bolts tonight. Should be getting new tie rod end and ball joint in this afternoon so we'll see. No it doesnt make the noise over bumps, just when the weight transfers during hard braking.

Hrm. Check the lower ball joint for excessive play and popping (mechanics stethoscope against the rubber boot and move the bolt back and forth)

Yep fixed the noise is gone after replacing the ball joint and tie rod but the car still pulls to the right...so i took it to get an alignment and they got the steering wheel straitened out but apparently the camber is non-adjustable on the 86 mkiii. So, they suggested that I take it to a body shop to have the frame tweaked back into shape. Taking it in tomorrow to get an estimate.
