Alright my ks next to the starter is broken off. what size bolt/nut is it? i heard like 22 or 24mm? If i get a long enough extension to come out past the intake i should be able to get it off, without having to take the intake off?

Should i do a rewire while its down??

Also would you trust buying a used one off ebay?

15/16 fits well. you shouldn't have to take the intake off, and i've herd of people getting to the rear KS without removing the starter.
Good luck.

Should i do the rewire mod while im going through the process of taking out the sensor?

yeah i was like that too, i just rebuilt my engine and when it went back in the sensor its self was bad (very reare) but when i got it fixed, it was a BIG difference, did you have code 52? was your engine light on?
about the re-wire, its a good idea but involves some time.i didnt need it, but i also checked for continuity from the plug to where it goes into the ECU . it's preaty easy to do but you also could have a short. if it was me, i'd put the sensor in and go from there. make sure you clear your codes too.
good luck
-Brian P.S. I love these quick replays ;)

You should do the rewire.

Just because you have connectivity does not mean that the wiring is good. It has to do with the shielding on the wire. It is a known problem so while your in there you might as well take care of it.

I have heard on different years the starter may have to be removed to get the sensor out. I loosened the starter and was able to get the sensor past the starter.

It would be much easier to access the sensor with the upper intake manifold removed but can be done with it in place. You may want to try from under the car.

There is alot of information about the rewire and testing the KS on here, and I believe some of the members sell rewire kits already made.

Good luck

All OEM nuts and bolts are metric.

Yes, an upgraded rewire is a good idea, as many have trouble with
open/short trouble code.

I wouldn't buy a used knock sensor. The only reason to sell it is it does not work, or the car is scrapped and being parted. It isn't like buying an intake manifold. It may work, it may not.

yea ill have to play with it tomorrow adjustable wrench is not a good idea for me.. the one i has is a china cheapy as soon as you put any force on it.. it falls apart.. so ill have to go find a 24 mm wrench

and i bought a used one off a 40k jdm engine so it should be just fine.. i was reading some posts and saw that they dont fail that often its mostly the wires

mine wasn't bad. it was broken in two. back when my dad still drove the car he gave it to the mechanic for something..upon leaving the shop...whats this? checkengine light? loss of power? hmmm..what could be wrong....2 years later after my dad neglected it because the car still ran...i stuck my hand in there and found the problem.:nono: the problem caused by a problemsolver.
