Hey Guys,

I have searched and not found what I was looking for. I have read something about oil pan swaps before but I belive it was on celicasupra and relating to the MKII so I don't know how applicable it is.

Anyway I bought a 86.5 MKIII with Rod Knock (understatement huge hole in block and oil pan).

I picked up a JDM 7MGE but he pan and sump look differnt, I think they are refered to as mid sump.

In order to use this motor I need to change the pan I assume to fit the MKIII, so will I also need to pull the pump and switch it over?

TIA

Carl

The JDM motor is a Cressida and yes crusinhard is right you have to change out the pan and the oilpump. should put a new oil pump in anyway especially with RN. The JDM probably should be taken apart to check everything out and see if it's all within spec. Some have had good results with them some have not.

Count me in with those who got burned with JDM junkyard motor. The one I got, probably had a bhg repaired (silicone sealant throughout motor, especially accumulated at the water galleys of head gasket & judicious use of silicone on waterpump). When I pulled the oil pan to check bearing clearances, rod # 6 was black and could wiggle it by hand. Usually you can see accumulation of crap on oil pump pickup screen but not always. Spend the $2 on plastiguage and check bearing clearances per tsrm. No point in putting a motor in that you don't know the status of, especially the head gasket.

You can also check the clearances on your busted block oil pump, it may or may not be usable. I got the same advice in another thread...knock knock knock!!

GL.

Seriously, do the head gasket, check the bearings & ring end gap. It's so easy with the motor just sitting there, sucks trying to do it in the engine bay ;)
