i went to work today and decided to try and fix my speedo prob. Up on a hoist, I disconnected the cable from the tranny and attached a powerdrill to it. I turned the car on and used the drill, nothing. So i followed the cable all the way from the tranny up thru the engine, andinto the firewall. I didnt see it cut anywhere. So, it was late in the day decided to rip out the dash at home. Now, i am at home and have the dash out. All I can really see is a green plug type thing and a wire coming from it. And in the dash all i see it a greasy mess. Does the wire need to be pulled with plyers or something and put back in the grease mess? or is my cable fucked?

The plastic part coming out of the green plug is what drives the speedo needle. It should stick out a little past the the green part IIRC (I haven't looked at it in about a month) and it should come to a kind of point. If it looks like part of it broke off, then yeahhhhh... it might be done. At least the long cable might be done. And the plastic piece might be broken somewhere along the cable or the cable might just be frozen.

When I changed minie I hosed it down with some WD-40 for a few hours before I put it in the car just so I wouldn't have to deal with taking it out again (which I ended up having to pull repeatedly afterwards but for a different prob).
