Okay, now, [XC] Shaz has stashed his supra at my place before i disappeared off to the US, however, once back here, my housesitter had fessed up to driving it around, and whilst doing so, it went *POP* and stalled. It restarted with issues but ran like a bag of spanners.
Today, i fired it up and it idles REALLY low - like 400/500rpm, but slowly picks up to settle at around 850rpm, but you can hear at the back of the head, a loud rattling noise. It did something similar when i drove it to Portsmouth, but without the rattling. After the car has been running for a few seconds, it's fine - TPS adjustment?
Now i *know* its not rod knock, simply because at 2500rpm, theres no abnormal sound of 'clacking'.
Car is down on power it feels, it'll lag, then pull like a train once the turbo kicks in, but it feels like its sluggish to spool - so i'm thinking the exhaust manifold gasket has gone pop, and the turbo ISN'T spooling amazingly well.
Alternatively, could the turbo have actually gone *pop* itself? Once over 2000rpm, the engine sounds fine, and no whine comes from the turbo itself at all.
Just popped the timing light on there, at idle, the base timing is bouncing around the 10 degree mark, not wildly from 8 to 12, more like from 9 to 11, and it doesn't settle...
Any Idea's, chaps?
