I Need Advice

I am 19 years old and am going to college full time. My uncle gave me a beautiful 87 Supra NA when I was 17. It had a a blown engine, but other than that, it was in pretty good shape. The interior needed some work and the body had a cople of dents in it.
To make a long story short, I bought a rebuilt engine for it when I turned 18. Ever since then the car has become a money pit and I still haven't got it running. I got the engine installed and it wouldn't start. I fix the problem only to find something else that is wrong with it. I am very close to getting it running, but everything I fix, something else goes wrong. I am just wondering that even if I do get it running, will things keep breaking? I just need some good advice about what to do. What are my options? Should I try to sell it?

I put in a rebuilt 7m-ge. This was the part that broke me. If I had known more about this kind of stuff at the time, I would have bought a JDM engine for half the price. I have learned a LOT from working on this car. If I could, I would like to sell the engine. It has never been started and is still under warranty. Or I would like to sell the body and put my new engine in a body that doesn't need any work. Just to give you more of a background, this is what I have done to the car in order that it was done:

- rebuilt engine ($$$)
- new hoses( vaccum, oil...)
- radiator
- various parts that I could only get through a Toyota dealership ($$$)
(mainly those stupid little fragile vaccum parts)
- restored gas tank
- Walbro fuel pump

Although I have had the car for 2 years, I didn;t start working on it until about a year ago when I decided to start looking for a engine. If I wasn't a college student, I would be driving my Supra as we speak.

Right now, the only problem is that a fuel line broke somewhere around the engine after installing the fuel pump.

Any more advice?
As you can probably tell, I don't want to let the car go.

As much as you've got in the car at this point I'd probably keep it if it were me. There's a point where you pass the peak as far as pouring cash into the car goes.

The only big concerns I would have at this point is the shape the suspension is in and the condition of the rest of the powertrain (clutch, tranny, driveshaft and diff).

Here's the sum of it. You've already spent a hell of a lot more on the car than you're ever going to get back. If the engine was properly rebuilt, it's going to be very reliable. Do you have the cash to spend on another car whose history you know even less about? You could very easily end up in the same situation, or worse.

My advice, stick around here. Post the issues you're currently experiencing, and let's see if we can't help you get everything up and running asap.

I had to check out this thread of needing advice and JAV giving it.....lol:biglaugh:

I agree with CRE you will never get your money out of it and it sounds like you want to keep it so keep it. I personally would find a cheep reliable DD like a civic, corolla, ect. Then park the supra until you can afford it, and call it good.

Thanks a whole lot guys for the advice! It is extremely helpful. I knew that I wouldn't get out of the car what I put in it, but it was more of just getting it off my back since I am a fulltime college student.
I have decided to keep the car and you can definitley expect more posts!
Thanks a LOT! :biglaugh:
