How is life in and around Houston, TX?

Hey guys,

My family and I are looking to move from Roswell, NM. I have been thinking of the Houston area (Sugar Land?). I was just wondering what the outlook is for the area. Income, Housing, ect. What are good, nice areas for a young family to live. What areas should be avoided. Any information would be great. Both of us have extensive experience in the Restaurant industry (family dining; Applebees, Chilis type restaurants) as well as bartending. I've also had some experience working in a dealership in service dept (Service Advisor, some Service Mngr. duties). We'd need at least three bedrooms and parking for 3 cars would be great.

Roswell, eh? Seen any aliens lately? . I'm not familiar about the Sugarland area, but ask around on www.houston-imports.com/forums. They should be of better help there than I am. I'm on the north/northwest side of town.

Well, I'm just really looking for some general information about the area. I'm not set on Sugar Land per se. I was curious what areas are the better areas to raise a young family and what areas to avoid. Plus if anybody who maybe worked or works in the Restaurant industry (Server/Bartender) can give a bit of input on quality of life for them based on income. We are just looking for new scenery and I actually picked Sugar Land off the internet from a list of the 50 best places to live. Thanks for the link though, I'll check it out.

Yeah, they won't let you sign up if you're using a free e-mail address even though I was able to use my Yahoo account to register.

Off the top of my head, I'm not sure if it was Sugarland and Fort Bend county that had the weird crime rate (not to scare you off though) but I heard it was a nice place to live. I might have to check that over though. Another nicer area with a quite neighborhood would be North Gate and Olde Oaks on the north side of town on FM 1960 between I-45 and SH249. I mean there are a lotta nice places. All you need to do is just do a bit of research.

As for restaurants, Houston AKA The fattest city in country (so they say) has a ton of restaurants per square mile. It shouldn't be hard to find a job. Last I heard, Jillian's (not sure what they renamed it to) off of I-10 and Silber was hiring bartenders and whatnots.

BTW you can also try www.houstonperformancedriving.com/forums and ask the HPD guys there. They're a great group of people.

I'm not sure if any of the was helpful. I don't drive around all that much with gas prices nowadays to really know what's out there. There are a few other people on here that are from the area. I think Red Dragon is one by the looks of his avatar info.

my personal experience in Houston is..Sugar land is a great area...Missouri city (like right next to sugar land) is also a very great area. safe neighborhoods for the most part, very suburban, yet decently close to the city.


but Houston sucks, Austin is the best city in texas
