hi, i was just wondering how it would be possible to gain some high rpm power? it seems like after 6k it's done. I've a rebuilt engine and head, racing header, stock exhaust system, and a cold air intake, i also removed the egr system when i rebuilt the engine.

Actually, without modifying the cams and valvetrain, a turbo isn't gonna make a difference above 6k. Now up to 6k, that's a whole different story....

Getting a more free-flowing exhaust will help you out quite a bit with your mid and high rpm power.

If you want more power at the higher end you have to up grade the valve train i.e. cams, valve springs, maybe some larger valves, ported head. That's what I've done and at 7K it wants to keep going. I just don't keep it there all the time...

you have to go stand alone to raise your redline from 6550 to above 7-8 k

you could put it on the dyno and have them adjust the timming for best top end performance..

Also, convert to speed/density and tune your cams.
Heard that.:naughty: Stand alone I don't think you have to go there, Ive never hit rev limit on my 88, don't think it has one. At least not at 7500

Hehe.... I've gotta start selling them.

I've hit the rev limiter on mine at just a hair past 6800RPM (according to my MAFT Pro and the log). The only time I ever revved that high, I try to keep it under 6K. BTW, compare the RPM reading on your MAFT Pro to your tach sometime. The stock tach isn't terribly accurate... its not the worst i've seen, but they are usually of by a fair amount.

Yeah I noticed a diff. just haven't paid too much attention to how much or which way. But I've never hit rev limit. Did the 88's have one? I think I seen a thread that said certain years didn't have one.
Opps sorry to step on your thread my friend.

OK
to get that higher rpm power you would have to build the head like metioned w/ bigger cams and then get higher compresion to bring out the full potential of the cams

When i had my head rebuilt i think he used the same old valves and valve springs, could worn valve springs cause less power? also if my cams have over 100k on them could the lobes be worn causing less duration and lift? Also, at 6-6500rpm there's quite a bit of engine vibration... is this normal? How much would it cost to convert to speed density? Could my ignition system be causing some of these problems? I have a whole MSD ignition with a Blaster Coil...

The old springs would want to "float" the valves at higher RPM's. Cams worn yeah maybe at 100k, defineatly the springs would be a little weak. Vibration at 6-65K, could be several things from unbalanced engine componants, to motor mounts.
Cost to convert to SD, maybe CRE could answer that one or Dr. Jonez sells the components, Maft-Pro, MAP sensor, wiring harness, IAT sensor, then you would need a intake kit. Read the Maft-Pro sticky on the Install. That's what I'm getting tuned in now. Wouldn't go back to AFM, no way no how...:naughty:
