HKS SSQV Installed

I bought an HKS SSQV, the hard pipe to mount it, and the recirc fitting to plumb it back in to the intake. I got the valve last week, but the pipe and the fitting didn't come untill today.

It was a mild PITA, not too bad. It took me a while to figure out how to mount it, then I realised I'd go for the stock look and have it dump in to the AFM-to-turbo intake pipe using the stock nipple. I was also able to retain the stock hardpipe for now along the passenger side of the engine compartment. I will upgrade all of this tubing later on, but figure it should flow fine with the stock turbo for now.

How's it look?

Yea, I hadn't put it on yet in the pic. I had to drive to the parts store to get one big enough. Took it for a long drive tonight, no more fluttering sound with the stock ABV, just a nice smooth release. Very nice, indeed. :)

Did you instal a recir. fitting into the SSQV? Also, fix your vacuum on the BOV it's going to kink up like it is now with that severe bend.
Yes, I pressed the recirc fitting into the stock ABV nipple. That's what took so long to complete. I finally figured out if I shaved some of the rubber out of the inside of the hose that the recirc fitting would fit. I have another new hose if it fails, too. And the vacuum line has already kinked, and I took care of it for now. I need to figure out a way to bend the vacuum nipple 90 degrees or so withouth kinking it.

Home Depot IC couplers are FTW!
LOL I ordered some proper intake pipes from my local car parts store but it will be a few days before thet arrive, the cheap couplers are so I can take it to the body shop this morning for a dashboard repair.

Try this, it may help: Take the SSQV and turn it sideways facing either the front of the car, or the back, whatever floats your boat. You may need to relocate your BOV some to do this BTW. put that metal piece back into the accordian hose plugin where the stock BPV was and clamp a rubber hose to the recir fitting on the SSQV and plumb it into the accordian hose and clamp it to the metal piece that I was talking about. Doing this should prevent the vacuum on the BOV from kinking.

Just get a plastic 90 deg vac fitting...problem solved ;)

I like the way you did this...looks clean!

Thanks for the good reviews. I thought about clocking it at a different angle, but I like that it blows right in to the stock port on the intake pipe, it means I probably (hopefully) won't have to take it off for smog checks, and it looks clean and stealth. :)

I gotta go back tot he parts store for some other projects I'm working on, so I'll keep an eye out for a 90 degree fitting.

Oh, if you plan on keep the stock 3000 pipe, you may want to cut off the end of it with a hack saw and file down the rough exges to get rid of the bottleneck in it, but I really don't know what your power goals are or if you just want to keep it stock. This is assuming you might put on some hard pipes in the future ;).

Thanks again for the tip. I'm planning on running the stock turbo as long as I can (read: as long as it still feels fast). But a full intake upgrade would definately be in order if I do upgrade the turbo.

I'm hoping to make 250-275 wheel ponies.

Oh I just remebered since there is a recent topic on this. I know you bought this beauty from an old lady who kept it in the garage for most of it's life, but have you checked to see if the engine undertray is still attached? If so, keep an eye on it, they're kinda rare nowadays and the plastic tends to crack where they're bolted down and then they come off ;).
