:1zhelp:I am rebuilding my 7mgte and during the process we took .010 off the block and .010 off the head. We also reconditioned the rods and only lost .003 in length. According to the actual specs I should use a head gasket with a thickness of .036 to achieve a compression ratio of 8.4:1. Going that thin for the HG just doesn't seem right given we took .020 off the block and head. Any input into this would be appreciated.

Stock HG compressed is 1.37mm...taking the rod shortening into account, you need .43mm additional thickness to maintain stock CR.
You did the math a bit wrong ;)
