Help with a good price

Im new to the Supra world and these forums so Im not 100% sure if this is the right forum to use. Im needing feedback on a 89 Im currently looking at. Having not delt with Supras and repair costs Im not sure if the cost of the car and repairs is worth it.

The car is like I said a 89, its a 5-speed turbo without the targa top. Currently the car is running with 113k miles on the original engine which is in need of a new head gasket. The body of the car has minor dings, scratches, as well as some surface rust around the defected areas. One of the rear tail lenses is cracked and its in need of a fresh coat of paint. Interior has a few flaws as well. The dash is cracked in two spots, the carpeting is worn. The upsides if you will to this car are 17" Eneki rims, and a aftermarket head unit. Besides that this car is stock no performance modifications.
After doing my visual inspection of the car I took it for a test drive. No issues that I wouldnt expect from a car that old other than the rear brakes are acting like they arent there. By that I mean the brake pedal play is very noticable. You can push fully down on the brake pedal then it feels like only the front brakes are grabbing. The e-brake is working so Im not sure on this issue. However, I live in a flat area so I cant really park the car on a hill and see if the e-brake holds.
Thats the basic run down on the car and the impressions I got from it. Ive been looking for a Supra a long time where I live with no luck. The owner of this one is asking $1.3k and is in my unit so I want this to be fair both ways. If the price is good for that year and condition just let me know. If you think the price is to much can you repost with a legit offer for me to give him? Also about the brake issue if anyone can help with that as well.
Final thing is where is a good place to get oem replacements such as a new dash, carpet, tail lenses?

you know for sure that it has a bhg??

if possible post up some pics,

i just picked up an 87 hard top turbo 5spd, i paid 700 for her, owner thought it had a bhg it was over heating, or getting hot, i have found a couple of hoses leaking so far,


if the carpet is really bad, and not cleanable, i would definitly start under a grand


check for damages to the targa seals, yes learn how to remove the top before purchasing, pop the trunk and see if the rear hatch stays up,

cloth or leather?

how bad is the dash? small crack or huge splittins?



if the owner has a bad car, and doesn't want to budge much on price it may be better to keep looking, there are great finds here on the forums, and also craigslist has good finds aswell,

Texas has a lot of nice Supras, I'm sure you can find something if this deal falls.

Some pictures would be nice, I have never delt with a cracked dash, I have been lucky, but you can find interior parts all the time around here.

And is the car worth it to you? Would you be willing to spend the money on it, to make it yours? If so, Do it, you will not regret it!

You would probably save yourself alot of headaches by spending 2k on something a little nicer.

For example, I got a 87 turbo 5spd hard top, 121k nice interior, exterior, ok, some damaged bodywork and a couple dings, nothing huge. 16" maxxims, turbo xs bov, s-afc, aftermarket muffler, poineer cd player. for $2000 She still runs just as good as when I bought her.

Thanks everyone for your help. Im talking to the owner Monday when we go back to work to see if I can get a little lower price on it. I checked Craigslist and I couldnt find anything in the El Paso area.
