Ok my buddy is trying to prep my spare head at his machine shop and has done a great job thus far, but during the surface prep for my MHG he got it flat milled but the surface just doesnt look smooth enough. You can still see a lot where the cutting head cut. I read somewhere on here about "lapping" the head I believe was the term. Can anyone give me a process or idea of what that is so I can relay that info to him for this head. He doesnt normally deal with imports, let alone supra's, and has never needed as fine of a finish on the head as I have read on here.

Also as a side note, there is also some pitting on the head as it had about 220k on it before it came off the motor, will that effect the MHG I am planning to put on the motor? I have a 1.2mm HKS i believe MHG. And the pitting looked as if it were around the water jacket area. Nothing that would be a problem near the cylinder bores or combustion chambers.

if you can visually see the marks then you definitely have a problem. PM GaboonViper85. He's worked at machine shops for years and can clarify everything for you.

if you've got any pitting on the head best to have it welded before its decked. the look should be mirror finish, run your finger nail accross it and if it gets caught on anything its way too rough....

this is what a properly surfaced deck should look like, this is the block and not the head. i can show you a picture of my head when i get it back in a few days...
