hey guys, got a steel gas tank in the truck that needs reconditioning or replacing. it's not the original, and the walls of the tank still look, feel and sound pretty solid. only problem is the rust inside is getting to be a bit of a problem. i've had a new fuel filter in line for about 2 weeks and its already sludgy with rust and sediment.

question is, should i get a polyethylene tank or take my steel and sandblast it and coat/paint or powdercoat the inside?

how well does the powdercoat react with gasoline?

Fill the tank with about 1/2 gallon of non flamable mineral spirits. Add one box of copper head copper coated BB's.

Seal off all areas of the tank that could leak (vents ect).

Put the tank on two engine stands or have two willing buddies on hand - and rotate for an hour or so.

What will come out will shock you.

also, POR 15 makes a gas tank sealer..... You dump it in and seal the holes and rotate to coat the interior and then drain...
