should be r134a.

It will also say on the hood.

thanks, i actually found the sticker today i had not seen and its R12.
it looks like its leaking from the top manifold on the compressor just like the mkiii are famous for.
anyone have an excerpt of the manual related to the 1uz-fe motor and ac?
need to know the volume of refrigerant and recommended pressures...

when i replaced this manifold gasket on my supra, i did the evaporator and expan valve at the same time.. then later on, my compressor seals went bad. may just do it all at once this time.

Any shop that does a/c can look it up for you. Are you just using a/c in a can or something?

Redacted per Title 18 USC Section 798
Manufacture of 12 was banned in 1994 (Montreal Protocol) so I suppose you could find 134 around then. I've never seen it in a Toyota that early though and especially not in a 91. Your advice to check the sticker was spot on however...

A very wise approach when dealing with MVAC...
