Hey there everyone, I just recently purchased my nice clean 1990 Supra with the 7m-GTE engine in it. The previous owner was the original owner and he stopped driving it back in 1997. It has not been driven since 1997. The interior is MINT not a rip, tear, stain on the entire thing. It has adjustable shocks, push button overdrive, and something else having to do with power (I don't want to go outside due to rain to check so I'll update later lol) and it also has my favorite, a very nice, targa top that DOESN'T leak. It has power seats, windows, locks, and mirrors, power antenna as well. The car only has 112k on the body and the engine only has 12k on it. Read below for why the engine has so little. It has a FMIC and everything works, included the A/C, but I am tempted to remove the A/C down the road because who needs A/C when you have a targa.
The previous owner had a blown head gasket and a bunch of other crap wrong with the engine so he bought and had shipped a 7m-gte engine from japan. He installed it int he car and then let it sit. I saw a sign on it saying for sale and asked how much. He said he only wanted to make back the money he had spent on the new engine, he showed me receipts for it and $1500 later I was the new owner of a 1990 supra in pristine condition. He said the only thing I would need is a new starter and a battery. So Off I go to my local O'reilleys to buy a new starter and put it in. With the help of this forum, I was able to get the starter in with minimal frustration... I now understand why people say putting a starter in, is a PITA. Anyways after getting it in, I replace the oil, the tranny fluid. I did a flush and fill for the coolant and made sure everything was where it was supposed to be.
The main reason why I bought this car was because I am starting college in the fall for automotive repair and figured this would be a great opportunity to work on my own car. BUT when I jumped into the drivers seat and turned the car over... all i got was that... the car turning over but not firing up. It sometimes sounded like it was going to start but then it wouldn't. I immediately checked to see if it's getting fuel, so I take the fuel line off before the filter and I have someone turn it over, sure enough it's getting fuel there. So next step I take the line off after the fuel filter... yep still getting fuel there. Next thing I did was take out one of the spark plugs and had a friend turn it over... I got the shock of my life... so there was indeed spark going to the spark plugs.
So i thought maybe it isn't getting fuel to the cylinders, or maybe the timing is off. When I had the spark plugs out, I didn't smell ANY gas on the plugs at all, so It's not getting gas into the cylinders... so this is where you guys come in! hopefully i can get some help on this issue... it is fuel injected so maybe the injectors are clogged? How do I go about cleaning the injectors if nothing is being sprayed out of them? Please help me! My truck is currently out of action, due to a broken upper and lower ball joints. And I am having title issues with my motorcycle. I wasn't expecting my truck to break down when it did so I need this car running. So any help you guys can give me would be fantastic!
