egr temperature sensor...code 71???

Will the egr temperature sensor cause a code 71??? And would my car run a bit hotter if the egr temp. sensor is faulty? I've replaced the EGR but not the sensor and it is still giving me a code 71. It's an 89 turbo. Thanks.

Will using a resistor to jump the connector and tricking the ecm to think that it is at normal temps be a good idea? Any negative affects???

Sorry, answered my first question...it will give a code 71. Other questions still stand though. Any help??? Thanks.
