door jamb black pivot thing

Hi, Im wondering what the black pivoting thing in the door jamb does. Mine are missing and i can get my hands on some. Do i really need these things? thanks!

So I guess you don't NEED them, but if you can get them the 2 screws are E-Z to get to.

I don't know the technical term for that part, but I call it the door open seat belt retract lever. I also believe it is used to cinch up the belt tight if you're in a front end collision. If you have access to these, install them. You want the restraint system working properly.

Mine was broken/missing and I replaced it. It makes the seatbelt slightly less tight on your chest when the door is closed, and when the door opens, it pulls tighter to reel in the belt. I think it's a comfort thing.

Umm... that's not what they're for. They don't have near the strength to perform that function. They increase seatbelt tension when you open the door to retract the seatbelt, but still allow comfortable use while driving the car. Most cars now use an electronic retraction setup.

The weatherstripping provides the rattle-protection you speak of.
