Diff Swap

I just had a quick question about swapping differentials. Can the internals for an MK4 TT differential fit in the MK3 Diff housing, or no.

Basically, do you need a whole MK4 TT diff, housing and all, or can you swap in something like this http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/par...n/Differentials/Carbon_Limited_Slip_LSD/12345 thats made for the MK4 into your MK3 diff housing.

Why? Richmond has many ratios that fit and are new. They also tend to be a little noisy.

The only "benefit" to swapping in a Mk4 diff over the stock one would be lower rear gearing, so depending on what you're trying to achieve, you might be over-thinking it. I wouldn't mind a slightly lower gear for highway cruising, but I don't do enough of it to really put any effort into it.

Why do you ask though? What purpose are you getting at?

The stock MK3 diff's gearing is too high too work with a V160, so I was trying to figure out the easiest way to bring the gearing down in the diff so it would be more compatible. And thats how I ended up at diff swap. So Im trying to figure out if I can do an internal swap, or if I'm looking at a whole diff unit swap.

I'd look into R&P swaps before I'd go to the headache of an entire diff swap. Might look into Truetrac, Kaaz, etc as an aftermarket replacement, or Jaws Gear.
