I've never really driven or owned a turbo car before and this sound kinda worried me. It doesnt have an air filter on it and the turbo only has a very slight side to side shaft movement.

Is this the almighty hated death whine? Tell me it ain't so!

PS - Pay no mind to the hacked IC piping. I didn't do it, I let my friend cut it.

try putting the filter back on and see if this changes anything cause when ihad no filter on for the test runs the turbo would sound loud and high pitched much like a HKS ssqv

Im going to say it may be death whine, but it also may be that you....

HAVE A GIANT FREAKN BOOST LEAK!!!!

Fix that boost leak and them video tape it again.

Lol, I'm gettin on that. I forgot to buy a couple of reducers.

JJ - It idles fine before i start giving it throttle, but after i open the throttle body to rev it, slowly of course, it starts idling like it does in the video. It kinda sounds like a cammed out muscle car until i rev it some more.

I was asking because running without an air filter usually causes erratic idle since the laminar flow screen can't do it's job. Makes for disruptions in vortex generation. I'm just trying to add another data point to my experience as most people don't run the engine without a filter. The few I've seen like that idle funky though and it makes sense from a fluid dynamics standpoint. Laminar screens typically need the equivalent of at least one diameter upstream to function correctly

As for your whine (you want some cheese to go with it? ;)) it shouldn't be too hard to locate. Based on what you said about shaft play I'm assuming there's no contact in the compressor housing. You'd see too. I'm also assuming the shaft turns free enough. This is where a stethoscope comes in handy but check out the induction system like the others suggested. Hard to tell from the vid if it's mechanical or a whistle from airflow. Or maybe I'm just deaf.

I c. Makes sense. Its only temporary that im running without an air filter, just for test starts etc... The shaft spins freely and when I first put the engine in and tried to start it i had the ignitor disconnected to get oil to the turbo so I did they prep for it right as far as I know. It never made this noise before I put that elbow onto the 3k pipe. And now that I think about it i never covered the IC piping to the 3k pipe with my hand to see if that was the cause. Maybe there is a vortex type thing happening in there to make a whistling sound? I'll check tomorrow.
