I need to cut into the carpet for a system install im doing. My only concern is fraying. I was wondering what people have used to prevent this while still maintaining looks/appeal.
Just take it to an upholstery shop or any taylor, they can sew a matching embodery where you cut so that the carpet won't fray and it will look factory. That's what I have to do with my hatch carpet (although I haven't done it yet). It'll probably cost you $10-15.
The hatch carpet is plastic backed with the pile coming out of the backer (unlike a weave). The plastic resembles a wax however. Easy to cut, hard to sew and keep the needle holes from opening up. If you're cutting for a speaker, just mount a trim ring and grille over it and you'll never see the edges.
