So I am going to see if I can find the true answer to this question. Can your engine fail to start up(like after a rebuild) if the gas has been sitting for over a year?

try some new gas and some octane booster and turn it till it starts... may take a good few cranks.
You can smell if it's old gas - I used brake cleaner on the injectors during the rebuild - gently cleaning each one as well as the fuel rail. drained the fuel tank and ran some fresh fuel through then put the new fuel filter in.
Now I think I should have put a new pump in while I was at it.
