A diesel turbo is a horrible thing to put on a gasoline engine. Due to the high compression of a diesel engine compared to a gasoline engine. The design of the exhaust and compressor housings is quite different in principal. Basically, either you would not be able to spool the turbo at any reasonable rate/rpm or you would spool it quick but run past it's efficiency very quick.

You shoosh right there.

Most if not all turbos on the market today that make big HP are from the diesel family.

The Hx55 makes ALOT OF POWER, the problem is that unlike the Garrett family, there isn't a bolt on rear housing thats smaller. Your only option is to find something else and have it machined out.

The hx55 rear housing is giant. I would say you'd be lucky to see full boost by 5krpm on a 7m with it.

Now, the hy35 with a hx40 comp wheels stuffed in it is a great idea.....

Would you recomend a different rear housing for it if it came for the right price?

Yes, a smaller exhaust housing would benefit you. I do not know the specs on the turbo, however something tells me the compressor will flow more than 500hp decently within it's efficieny range.

Yeah It is a great turbo if my flanges get finished (hint hint John) mine should be done in the next couple of weeks. I got mine for free my dad had it around his shop not too many miles on it. Free sounds like a good price.
