i have to change the big white fan that sucks air the radiator. it has a small chip in one of the blades that i am afraid will wear down the rotary.

i encountered a simple problem. there is a black plastic piece that protects the fan (and people standing over the engine) that i cant get out of the way!:icon_mad:

of course i tried all the screws, but something is catching!

any info on how to get this dumb black thing out of the way will be appreciated. ill try to get pics tomorrow, if necessary.

are you talking about the fan shroud?

i am talking about the black, arching piece of plastic the covers the fan. i am just trying to get the this black piece of plastic off before i proceed, to make things easier.

this might help you understand:

there are 2 clips that hold a section of the shroud on the bottom. carefully pry them off with a flat bladed screw driver,as they will ping off and take your eye out.
then there are the bolts on top that secure it as well.
after you have the upper rad hose off as well as the over-flow tube,a/c fans, the shroud should come off with a little effort.
just take your time, and don't get pissed and frustrated

Maybe you shouldn't be doing this maintenance dude since you can't even tell what that "black plastic piece that protects the fan" is called...

well if named it, it wouldnt be called a shroud.:icon_bigg shroud is a pretty general word, meaning to protect or conceal. i am sure there are other names for the fan shroud, like cover.

lol, but thanks for tip.:icon_conf
