Coolant/Engine Temp Issue

Ok I know that my supra has air in the pipes and needs to be burped however I have noticed that when I initially begin driving the car I get no heat and no coolant noise in the dash while at the same time my engine temp is going up down up down until eventually I start hearing the waterfall noise and my heat comes back and the temperature goes back to normal.

My question is what is going on?? lol is it actually the air in the pipes blocking the coolant/waiting for the air to be pushed through something like the heater core or is there something in my pipes resisting the initial flow of my coolant?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :icon_conf

btw I have not been able to burp it because i do not have a big enough jack and all my hills are covered in ice :(

Barkz- don't post stuff like that- you're going to get someone hurt!

OP- I have had luck by removing the upper heater core pipe when the engine is cold and filling the coolant after. If you hold the heater valve open manually, it should run from both sides of the pipe. If it doesn't, you need to check for blockage. It sounds like you already have a handle on the situation, just need to wait for warmer weather! :)

Thanks, I guess what I was really wondering is if burping it would solve all of my issues?

i had a bouncing temp needle after i blew a hose (that stupid little 90* one behind thermo housing!!!!), burped it. and havent had an issue sence. but i didnt try the heat cuz this was during the summer. but my heat works fine as of now....yet (no threadjack intended) 85* on the CC does not feel as hot as it should be? and turning it down to 78ish feels almost cool. any idea? im thinking maybe my control valve isnt opening fully?

From my experience, if there is air in the lines leading from the heater core, it will not flow. Once the coolant fills the pipes it should not stop flowing. Why your car would empty the heater lines when cold is a mystery, but there is definately air in the system which is mucking about with the proper flow.

All that and no definite answer :p Bleeding the cooling system is just the first step in making this issue go away. There may be other issues that are lurking about but you gotta start at step #1 :)

Edit- Barkz, you can test if the coolant valve is opening all the way by turning the CC to 85, then go out to the valve and unplug it. See if it opens all the way when you plug it back in. The vacuum line that suppliues vacuum to the valve is exposed to some pretty nasty conditions and I actually found mine was melted!

Could be a blown amp in the climate control box too

lol "poopra" is just what ive called/seem these cars called so i use it from time to time. but for N/A's sounds good! lol. dealer? not that i know of lol. anything i need i search the FS sections here and on SF first. if not then i try ebay. i try to stay away from the stores if possible. car was purchased with this paint, used to be the silver(i think). if you need 7M parts( or if you wanna go Turbo ;)), let me know, once i get back from afghaniland im going 2J and will be parting out the 7M. only one other guy Supra0089(heres on here too from NH) might want parts so first come first serve.
