I want to change the interior color on my car.

I was wondering what paint i use for the vinyl and plastic peices?

also is it safe like will it run or bleed etc.

also I know it is unsafe to dye youre carpet and cloth, so what would be the best way you say? RE CARPET??? and re cloth??

Thanks in advance!!

I'm currently converting the color of my interior from grey to black. So far ive done the center console, interior door pulls, and the door sills. Right now I'm using Dupli-color Vinyl & Cloth Spray. It's $5.77 a can. It's been working really good so far. I'll put up some pics tomorrow. I haven't tried it on cloth so I wouldn't know. But unless the carpet is immaculate, I'd suggest getting a new OEM one. They go for under $200.

It's all in the prep of the pieces. Make sure you clean them very well with acetone (be carefull with pieces wrapped in vinyl). Then buy an adheasion promoter, like SEM color coat. Dupli-color might have something to. If it isn't prepped right, you'll find your self doing it again in the near future. Or you can do what I'm doing. I sent my pieces down to a local autobody shop, they have a special heating process they do to get rid of all oils, grit, etc. that has obsorbed into the plastic and vinyl. Then the spray it with a dye, not paint. It penetrates into the cleaned out pores instead of spraying a layer of paint on top.

I was going to do it myself with SEM color coat, but started to run out of time on my project so I asked an upholstery shop to do it. He told me to take it to an autobody shop, since they knew the proper process. Its going to cost me a lot more probably, but I know it'll be done properly.

I used that vinyl paint on all of my hard plastic peices and it turned out really nice. I also dyed my carpet... why is that a bad idea? No probs with it, just shampoo it or something before you get caught out in the rain with your new K-swiss's. :icon_bigg The paint is really easy to use, just dont try to cover it all in one coat and it shouldn't run.

I'm also starting to paint some pieces with the dupli-color vinyl paint and was curious if it needs a clearcoat or something on top of the paint for protection from cracks.
