Ok when the "power steering rack leaks" which part does it leak out of. My contact in japan says its impossible to leak out of the rack because its a "solid bar", but is this true? I need to know where it would leak out of.
It leaks out of the "Steering Gear Assembly" (the housing which contains the rack and pinion) not the actual rack. People refer to it simply as a steering rack though.
Generally speaking it leaks out of one of the sides inside the boot where the inner tie rod is attached.
Its a matter of semantics, the rack is technically the rod that is geared with the pinion. Most people call the casing and the rack altogether the ps rack. The whole assembly can leak at the seal between the case and the rack rod.
Ahhh ic that explains a lot. Does anyone have a picture of what the rack may look like on a JZA70.. i need this to figure a few things out and for repair purposes.
Can the steering rack it's self actually leak? Fuck yes. The rack is a hydraulic cylinder and any seal in any hydraulic system can leak. So yes if you find hyrdaulic fluid leaking from you rack you can very well be right.

Soo uuhhh excuse my lack of mechanical knowledge, but if its leaking right out of the left boot ps fluid, which part in that picture would i need to replace. My mechanic said the "rack is leaking" but does it include everything in that picture??
