can the distributor be shimmed?

so as some of you know.. i rebuilt a cressy engine recently...

so im hearing this noise, thats between a knock and a tick...
its comming from the exhaust side valve cover toward the cam gear
doesnt really sound like valvetrain...

the only thing i can think of thats in that area is the distributor drive gear

question being:

since the cam is from a cressy.. and my distributor is from my 86.5.. is there a difference i should know of? that you know of? i dont know the year of the cressy engine..

can the distributor be shimmed? something else?

Most likely a valve clearance off.
