lately I have been smelling a burning smell from my car, could it be the turbo or tranny? my turbo doesn't smoke that I know of, but it does whine different now.

Burning what? Oil, coolant, rubber, plastic, trans. fluid? A "burning smell" could be anything from leaking valve covers, a plastic grocery bag melted on the exhaust, to a heater hose leaking on the exhaust.

Ok, then jack up the car, and check for leaks. Look at the pan gasket, output shaft seal, sensors, dip stick tube, and speedo sensor. It could be getting blown back on the exhaust while you're driving. Look at the exhaust for wet or stained spots.
