i just got a set of Crower 268 intake, 276 exhaust and i know im gonna need to get springs and retainers, my question is who has the best springs for the price and strength?

also, i doubt i could, but could i run these cams on the stock springs for a few weeks till i get a new set of springs and all in? as in just driving no revving it out or anything? like i said i doubt it, but was just wondering.

OK
i thought you could run aftermarket cams on stock valve train just as long as you don't rev higher than 8k rpms? or does that just depend on how big the cams are?

That wouldn't be a problem.
The problem with the stock springs is that at higher revs, say 6500 - 7000 and up, they can't keep up with the higher lift and aggressive lobe anymore and will start to float.
As long as you don't rev the shit out of it you can drive around with them, no problem.

well tissimo had Crower 272 (small cores) so actually 268's and he revved to 7600 on stock springs with no problems.....i think once you go to 272's is when you need new springs and retainers.

I rev to 8000 on stock springs and cams, but I wouldn't do that if I were you...

Don't waste your time putting in aftermarket cams if you're goin to use stock springs. Anything is better then stock, especially if you want to take advantage of the new power in the 8000+ rpm range that the cams will give you

I would get valve springs, Stock springs wont hold up to a good lift @ 7500+

Crower 272 small cores have a very small lift .344 so hardly affect the springs (hell stock 2jz cams have .346 lift).. The crower 268s and 276s have much higher lift.. .400+ iirc

just wanted to know if i could toss the cams in on stock valve springs, so thanks very much for the information guys.

what kind of tools will i need for replacing the springs? so far ive only done springs on SBC and BBC motors, never have done an DOHC motor yet.

will be similar the sbc and bbcs.. remove the cam caps and cam (different) then just remove the keeper and valve spring then.. I used compressed air into the cyl from my compressor to keep the valve from falling in the engine.. worked great..
