As a beginner i do realize this is going to be a B*tch and a half to accomplish. I need to know what Tools im guuna need to do the job correctly and Most of all i was hoping somebody could recomend a brand of head gasket that they had no trouble with. Last thing i wanna do is get something thats gunna take a Shyt on me. Also, Why is it that the head gaskets give out on supras? is it the material that their made of or what? All help is greatly appreciated.

not to be an ass but the MOST IMPORTANT TOOL for this job is the search button at the top of the page, if you you look up along the blue bar just under your user name you'll see from right to left LOG OUT (thats not it) next QUICK LINKS (thats not it either) next is SEARCH (thats the one you want)all the info your ever going to need is right there. Best of luck champ

Best piece of advice: Do not use a MHG unless you are going to have BOTH the head and block resurfaced. Otherwise, use a Toyota OEM HG...you can buy a complete head kit (HG, cam seals, etc) from Toyota...Champion Toyota in Houston will give you the best price. Use ARP studs or bolts and torque to ARP specs (on the sheet that comes with them) and use the torque sequence in the TRSM. Do not forget to put RTV on the top of the rear timing cover at the locations shown in the TRSM. I would also replace the timing belt if it has not been done recently...might as well, you are already there ;)

The reason the stock HG blows is due to the factory torque for the head bolts...it's too low. A torque of 70-75 ft/lbs is much more reliable and is in line with what ARP uses for their hardware. This and guys bumping the boost up causing detonation due to insufficient fuel, poor tuning, etc will kill a stock HG in a heartbeat.

since you are doing just a head gasket change get a kit from toyota it will have most the gasket you need for this job. While you at it you need cam seals not sure if that was included in the kit it might be. Did you change your timing belt recently? If not this is a good time to do it unless you want to skip all the work. Its totally up to you. Replace every single gasket that's available in the kit. Take your time take pictures so you don't forget where the wiring goes to where. Good luck I've done 3 head gasket job I'm pretty much memorize the engine wiring harness on these cars.
